选秀节目是真人秀节目的一个组成部分，虽然国外并没有“选秀节目”这个概念而是统一称之为“真人秀节目”，但是在国内，选秀节目还是以其压倒性的数量和高辨识度的节目特点，成为真人秀节目的中坚力量，所以本文的研究对象定位于国内真人秀节目之中的选秀节目。在国内的电视屏幕上，选秀节目从兴起到红极一时再到今天的渐渐黯淡，不过经历了三四年的时间。期间，我们的选秀节目经历了一个有趣的发展过程，从平民选秀的兴盛到明星选秀的热闹再到平民选秀和明星选秀共存的局面，内容上也是从单纯的唱歌发展到更多领域。在模仿国外节目的同时有很多大胆创新，却也因为自身的诸多原因而背负了种种不足之处，巨大的喧嚣最终导致了广电总局的一纸“限制令”。于是，今天的选秀节目现在呈现在我们眼前的，是一个似乎即将要没落的节目形态。但是在国外，比如美国，选秀节目历经多年还是经久不衰，虽然也有很多人担心它们会走下坡路，但无论如何，今天它呈现在观众眼前的，还是一副欣欣向荣的姿态，比如走到第七年的《美国偶像》。如此看来，选秀节目本身是有很强生命力的。所以，在现今国内选秀节目走到一个瓶颈时期时，回顾它的发展历程，在与国外选秀节目的比较中找到不足，为它的本土化再发展出谋划策，也显得有意义了。首先，通过梳理国内选秀节目的发展过程，我们可以清楚地看到其发展特点，用比较的眼光看待平民选秀和明星选秀节目，其实是把这两者看作选秀节目发展过程中的前后两个点，从而从两者异同点的比较中研究整个国内选秀节目的发展进程。其次，通过模仿型选秀节目《超级女声》、《快乐男声》与原型《美国偶像》，以及自创型选秀节目《红楼梦中人》这两个个案的分析，可以看出我们的选秀节目所存在的诸多问题，而关键症结就在于缺乏后续的支撑。我们的选秀节目只注重“秀”，为秀而秀，从选秀节目走出来的选手们，没有应有的利益保障，大多数选手甚至不知去向，使选秀节目的最终目的缺失，变成一场纯粹的收视率争夺。当然，除此之外，资本不足、缺乏经验、缺乏资源整合能力、没有版权保护等，也都不同程度导致国内选秀节目的迅速衰落。面对这些问题，我们要做的太多，通过和国外选秀节目的比较，具体可以归纳为制作适应国情的节目、加强媒体自律、借鉴他国经验进行本土化发展这几个方面。其中，借鉴他国经验进行本土化发展又可以从节目制作、主持人、资源整合、产业链、版权保护等多个方面说开去。娱乐的规律总是喜新厌旧的，选秀节目也只有在不断求新求变中才可能生存下去。
