Greatness. It’s just something we made up. Somehow we’ve come to believe that greatness is a gift, reservedfor a chosen few — for prodigies, for superstars — and the rest of us can only stand by watching. You can forget that. Greatness is not some rare DNA strand. It’s not some precious thing. Greatness is no more unique to us than breathing. We’re all capable of it, all of us.

** make up sth.

reserved for a chosen few,预留给那些被选中的人，

and the rest of us can only stand by watching. 而我们其他人只能站在一旁观望而已。

**stand by，“站在一旁什么也不做”，后面的watching是一个动词的现在分词形式作伴随状语，stand by watching字面意思是“站在一旁观望”，袖手旁观。

然后三个否定句，告诉我们“伟大不是什么”：
